About Me

I work in the data editorial department for the sports data company Opta, who provide the official stats for the Premier League, Football League and dozens of other leagues across the world. It's my job to make football stats interesting, relevant and also provide important context to stats on a daily basis for a variety of media outlets. I am part of the team who run the OptaJoe Twitter account, which now has in excess of 1,000,000 followers, so we have a wide-reaching audience across the globe. I am very fortunate to be doing a job I love, and work alongside brilliant and creative people (importantly, a few of us are Leeds fans), which makes the job even more enjoyable.

Along with all the data I am lucky enough to have access to in my job, I have also spent a large amount of time putting together a database-of-sorts on Leeds United, which means I am able to tell you which player has made the most Leeds appearances without ever playing on a Saturday (it's Simon Grayson with four games - two on Tuesday, one on Wednesday and one on Friday), and who is the only player to be subbed on and subbed off on his Leeds debut (Robbie Rogers in February 2012 against Doncaster). But alongside the quirky, slightly zany facts it does also offer a chance to bring some insight into the history of Leeds United and the players who have appeared for the club. With the club in its 100th year, I can hopefully write some entertaining and interesting pieces, backed up by the data I have at my disposal.

Enjoy the blog - I've named it after the corner of the ground I've had a season ticket in since the 2005/06 season. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on here or Twitter (JRCooper26).
